Apps in undecorated windows?

I have some apps, like xclock, xpad, etc. that I launch every session.
 Is there a way to do the following:

1.  Launch app with "undecorated" window. (simple border, no Win mgr buttons)
2.  Launch app without an entry in the system tray (panel, whatever
it's called).

I guess these are Gnome/Metacity issues, but I can't find anything in doco.
