How to make Ubuntu extremely fast

*ubuntu is a great system and what I run but, if I really wanted speed
I would run Damn Small Linux booted with the ram option.

dsl toram dma

If you are doing this from a cd you will not get the greatest boot
times but once booted it is VERY fast. For this you give up all the
great bells and whistles that make Ubuntu great.
