Depends. When people suggest XFCE it isn't XUbuntu. XUbuntu, from my
experience, is trying to be GNome-lite and includes some GNome programs, at
boot, that XFCE-as-installed-in-Debian does not. Not only that but XFCE had a
rather nasty memory leak for quite a while. I do not know if it has been
fixed. After having to shut down X several times a day on my limited-RAM
laptop I gave up on XFCE and moved to KDE since KDE was lighter on RAM than
XFCE with the constant memory leaking.
