Xubuntu and Kunbutu both have different gui's and they have strengths
and weaknesses compared to Gnome. What it comes down to is more code
and more resources used means more functions and an easier time
provided you don't hit bugs. I use Xubuntu on my laptop and it works
just fine but is much harder to configure than the other two. Also if
you are a real minimalist you can get ride of a lot of libs if you use
the software that is for xface. There are libs for Gnome and KDE that
are used by each program made for that system. On the other side you
can run Gnome software on KDE if you have the libs installed but you
might loose things like the ability to cut and paste from one program
to the next. I have a totally mixed and matched system based on what I
like and have no real problems that I can't deal with. I am no expert
on this lib thing but I think I have the basic idea right here.
