Windows XP---two Debians, ubuntu 7.01 (cd and dvd, ubuntu 8.04 (cd and dvd)
I've downloaded 8.04 from various sources and did reinstalls and it
seems to make no difference, 8.04 eventually locks up solid then I try
the suggested combination key presses and the ONLY way
I can unlock is to shut off the computer. I've tried repowering the
computer and again 8.04 works fine for a while.
Performing the 'acpi -V' check always shows 'Thermal 1: 40.0 degrees C'
All my installs are done with downloads that I do myself. I should have
requested a free CD.

There've been times when 8.04 works perfectly for almost an hour before
lockup occurs.
