How to make my xwindow logon faster in Ubuntu?

Dear all:
I install 8.04 hardy on my IBM x22, but each time it takes about 10
mins to let me see the xwindow logon page.
While waiting the logon page shows up, I try to open the tty2 by push
CTRL+ALT+F2, and I can logon by console mode.
And that means my os is ready and the time is spending on activate the Xwindow.
I attach my dmesg log for your reference.
BTW, would someone tell me what the number in front of dmesg used for?
and where I can find inittab to change my running level while booting?
appreciate your help,
miloody
