I had this exact problem once and instead of pulling my hair figure it out, I circumvented it. I just use another protocol.

To sum it up, you can choose NFS, FTP or SSH. I personally preferred SSH (SFTP, to be accurate) since I don't want to configure anything else. Perhaps SFTP is an antithesis of a saying, "security is always opposition of convenience."
