I have the same card and had faced the same issue.
The update converts the original ipw3945 driver to iwl3845 driver.
Some forums advise on back porting to ipw3945 and I'm pretty sure that will
work as well.
But if you are not afraid to compile the source, go to
http://intellinuxwireless.org and download the iwlwifi , mac80211 , tarballs
and compile them.
I got mine working with this, btw.
