Ubuntu Intrepid is flawed

Hi Mark, I really am not sure what caused the sound to stop. But I
will do this since at this very moment I am re-installing Intrepid. What
I will do is not accept any updates and set up VLC and other
sound-picture items and see what happens.
The first problem is it does not re-boot well at all. It stops at
something and I have to turn off power. But after a minute or two it
does re-boot and Intrepid comes on with sound working.
Now I apt-get VLC and that is working fine. The Update wants to give
me 190 updates but will wait a while on that and see if sound stays
without update.
More as it happens.
