Installing new kernel over compiled one

Installing 2.6.22.15 won't remove your 2.6.24.3. Being notified of 
updates isn't so bad. You can update when you're ready. If the 
notifications bother you so much, you can right click the "update 
notifications" icon and uncheck "show notifications."
