A virus for Linux is real and possible. The means of getting a virus
on a desktop is quite slim , or even a server for that matter. Since
repositories are highly controlled channels the only real way of
getting a virus is if YOU put it there (not from a repository) or if
someone else put it there with unauthorized access. These are more
real scenarios that fit better into why a Linux machine should have a
virus. I've been a Linux user for almost ten years now and I haven't
once ever caught a malicious piece of code on my *nic machines ever!
There was this one time though when I ran a windows virus with wine
and it started all those funny processes. Hilarious to watch pseudo
procs like explorer.exe in a simple 'ps aux' :)
Antivirus software for Linux is not in the usual requirements. IDS -
maybe. But not an antivirus.
