Um...Karl...it sounds like this is the *first* time you looked at the 
logs after the installer bombed to find clues of what happened.

And people are telling you it's very possible that it's a partition size 
problem on the destination partition.

So...what else did you install on this partition? Why don't you use 
parted and resize the partition, then try the reinstall?
