Joystick: some buttons don't work...

Hi list,

I bought a joystick recently (Saitek "Cyborg Evo"), in order to fly
helicopters in X-Plane.
I was pleased to see that it was basically plug'n play: I just plugged
the USB cable, started X-Plane and it recognized it.

My problem is that all the axis and most of the buttons work (that is,
I can fly :-), but for some reason a few of the buttons appear not to
be recognized by X-Plane, that is when I press them in the
joystick configuration dialog, it doesn't detect that I have pressed
them.

The buttons are the 8 that form the "hat"/POV switch, that's used to
look around the cockpit.

So I am trying to figure out what's wrong.

Is there some little debugging tool (probably at the command line) that
I could use to check that the kernel/device driver actually detects (or
not) the hat switch(es), so that I know if it's a driver problem or
Xorg problem, or maybe an application/X-Plane level problem ?

Or is there some known issue about this particular joystick, whereby
the POV switch doesn't work and is unlikely to ever work ?

Thanks for any ideas :-)

Regards,
