the channels.conf file created by me-tv is then rejected by me-tv

In order to create a channels.conf file, me-tv must scan.
The scan produces a channels.conf that looks reasonable
to my eyes, but me-tv rejects it as containing an invalid record.

The file looks like this:

removing the funny ^H and ^P characters does not help.
