newby questions about cgi-bin

Hi,

I am a new Ubuntu user (used Slackware for a long time) and I am not very
familiar with the location of config files and setup information such as
startup scripts and such.

I have installed Ubuntu server 7.1 and installed a number of packages, ssh,
apache and others and I am trying to migrate my web applications from the
old Slackware system. All goes well except that I cannot find where to put
and how to enable the cgi (Perl) scripts. Under my old setup, they were in
/var/lib/apache/cgi-bin and the config file was in /var/lib/apache/conf

The web server works (I can get static pages over the intranet).

It would be nice if there was a configuration tool but apparently, the
server 7.1 comes without a GUI (not that I am complaining) and I suspect a
lot of the newby hand holding is through the GUI.

I have other questions that I will ask separately to keep the subject
consistent.

Thanks in advance,

Didier
