I had something weird happen to me to a system I dual boot with SuSE
while I was in the other OS, stand alone reinstall no viruses It trashed

unnoticeable and your system went wild but did not stop.

Best thing is to use gparted and partition ahead of time. If you do not
use XP much make a 4.1gig partition for C:, which fits nicely on a DVD
single layer you make with dd, then use the rest in extended partition
for Linux. If you want an exchange drive for data format it as win32.

FYI man dd you will want to back up your boot partition in the event you
use American Tax software which overwrites the boot sector. Just store
that backup of the boot sector on a bootable USB running ubuntu or any
of several USB ready distros.
