Uninstalling a downloaded program.

Thank you for your quick response.

The difference in package name and filename is something I did not think
of.  Learn a little bit every day.

After I posted I also found

Locally installed debs show up in synaptic under the "local and obsolete"
section (click the "status" button at the bottom left).
