Right click on a blank spot on the panel, then click on 'Properties'.
Adjust the pixel size - the default is 24. I've mine set to 29 & doing
so allows me to actually see that the sound icon is actually a speaker
using the Unity theme. You can also adjust the background - click 'Solid
Color' and adjust the transparency/opacity & color.
