I upgraded my system from ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 few days back. Before upgrade,
my desktop work very fine and now I m getting error when starting GNOME.
It booting fine till login point and when entering my logins details it
stuck with blank white screen.
Just after the reboot it given following error and loged in. After I tried
with to go in with "GNOME fail " mode and now its not booting GNOME at all.

What Can u? I can use only command line.

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work

The last error message was:

Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did
not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the
reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in.

Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.
Without the GNOME settings manager running, some preferences may not take
This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE)
settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the GNOME
settings manager.
