Hi Jeffery,
The CD only provides installers for Windows versions of some of the Open
Source software included in the Ubuntu Linux Distribution when ran from
Windows. In order to experience the Ubuntu desktop you should boot up your
computer with the CD in the drive. Ubuntu will load itself from the CD and
you can run the OS from the CD without installing to the Hard Drive. If
you do decide to install, there is an icon on the desktop to launch the
installer.
