Wireless in ubuntu will not work with static IP address - Wicd installed

I don't know about dedicated APs, but I have 2 different routers with 
wireless AP included. Both support WEP, WPA, WPA2. If you use WEP it will 
only protect you from newbies. According to an article I read some months 
ago, WEP can be cracked within about 1 minute.
