Wireless in ubuntu will not work with static IP address - Wicd installed

I use static IP addresses with wired and wireless connections quite
happily.

I don't know what the OP's original problem is/was, but rest assured
that static addresses work just fine with wireless access points.

All I do is define them in /etc/network/interfaces either directly or
(more usually) via the GUI at System->Administration->Network.

That said, I think DHCP is way more convenient, and I use static IPs
only when I have to.
