Apologies ^_^ because I was reading the mailing list in hurry yesterday, lost track of the original question and posted a wrong answer for your question. My answer would be valid for wired network and not a wireless network. ;) Sorry.
As for your original question, I do not think wireless APs support static IP. Although there's always a possibility in the future that someone can write a compatibility layer software that bridges:
wireless AP<->Ubuntu (dhclient)<->bridge_device<->static_ip in Ubuntu
But how one would go about doing it beyond my capability. ;)
But for now I believe you _have_ to stick with dynamic IP address allocated to your machine if you are to use wireless connection in Linux.
