Jittery problem with Flash

I am experiencing what I would describe as a jittery problem that appears to
be concerned with Flash video (youtube etc).  The screen will freeze and be
inoperable for a period of 5 or 10 seconds at a time and the audio will
repeat in a loop of somewhat shorter than a second.  It is real becoming
annoying as when multitasking.  I am running Ubuntu 7.04 on AMD Sempron
2500+, ~1gb RAM, broadband.  I have also experienced it in earlier versions
of Ubuntu.
