Great, now we're getting somewhere. Let's forget, for a while, the
abstract discussion about interfaces names (sorry, guys ;)).
Can you please copy and paste the contents of the file
/etc/network/interfaces here? This is probably some mistake there.
Also, Carl can you test if booting the LiveCD makes it work properly
out of the box?

according to this there are no linux drivers and the other links goto
pdf so even windows drivers are missing.
