Ack!  Maybe you're right.  I've been merrily editing this file every time I
installed a new linux since early Debian days.  I thought it still had my
edited version, but now I see it has:
 send host-name "<hostname>";
literally (from my recent feisty install - I guess I _didn't_ copy the old
dhclient.conf), and my network still recognizes my host, so I guess that's
what it _should_ be.
