Compiling Asterisk requires Ubuntu source?

By the way, you should be aware that universe packages aren't officially
supported by Ubuntu and may not always be updated immediately.

It's 1.2 (1.2.7.1 to be specific).  See
http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper/comm/asterisk and
http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper/comm/asterisk-classic

My mistake.  Run:

sudo aptitude install linux-headers-2.6.15-28-amd64-generic
