How to generate an initramfs for a version previous to 2.6.12?

Hello, all
I am testing a patched version of a kernel 2.6.11

I've already built it, but I cannot boot it, I guess because it needs an
init ram drive.
When I try to generate one using mkinitramfs tool it complains that
2.6.11version is too old for it to handle.

How can I generate an init ram drive for this kernel version? I really need
to boot this kernel
