Network manager acting up (no WPA)

Sorry, that previous email was sent prematurely (damn gmail
shortcuts).  The cut off part in the middle should read:

"When I opt for the "Manual
configuration" and try to configure my wireless network that way
(through the "properties" button), after disabling roaming mode the
only password type options are WEP hex and WEP ascii.  That is,
there's no WPA option, unlike normal.  I've tried to associate through
the command line but that doesn't seem to work either."
