FYI - solved my own problem!
There is a setting in the keyboard prefs applet that configures the
keypad behaviour the way I like.
it is Keyboard Preferences->Layout Options->Misc compatibility
options->Shift with numpad keys works as in MS Windows.
does anyone know the rationale for (what I presume is) the *nix
convention for keypad operation? It appears from the settings that
the Mac also has a different way of handling the keypad!
I personally am at a loss without the shift+keypad cursoring --
especially when coding.
(yes, I obsess about interface issues...)
CHeers,
MC
PS - cheers to gnome for having the setting I needed in the place that
I (eventually) thought of looking. no text file editing required !!
