Fair enough. I'm running Kubuntu 7.04 updated as of 7/6/07 via repo's
only (no kernel mods). The server I'm trying to connect to is a Win vpn
server. I made sure that my router (Linksys WRT54G) was configured to
allow vpn access. With the XP box (used for 'legacy' testing of things
like this), I went into the network connections dialog, setup a vpn
connection, asked it to connect, and it shows as "connected". I didn't
do much browsing around with it, as my main concern is to get the Linux
machine to connect.

On the Kubuntu side, I have knetworkmanager installed, kvpnc, and the
plugins. I configured kvpnc to connect to the vpn at work, and once the
30th or 40th process started, promptly went to a command shell and sudo
killall vpnc'd that whole lot...

Yes, I did visit that link and followed through three others mentioned
in the forums as well. The end result of the trial and error is _not_
using kvpnc (see above note)... I did install the pptpconfig from James
Cameron. When running that program (as root), this is what is in the
pptpconfig tunnel dialog box -

Using interface ppp0
pptpconfig: monitoring interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/2
Warning - secret file /etc/ppp/chap-secrets has world and/or group
access
CHAP authentication succeeded
MPPE 128-bit stateless compression enabled
Cannot determine ethernet address for proxy ARP
local IP address 10.1.25.129
remote IP address 10.1.25.107
primary DNS address 10.1.3.25
secondary DNS address 10.1.3.20

I do get the message "cannot determine proxy address for arp". I cannot
add the route suggested (route add -net 192.168.0.0 netmask
255.255.255.0 dev ppp0) unless pptpconfig is actually running. When it
is running and I do add the route, the status of the tunnel stays at
"starting" in the pptpconfig dialog.

Any suggestions as to how to finally get this connected would be most
appreciated.
