Kubuntu fails to load using the
"https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick"
instructions.

I get to the boot: screen, when I press enter, it
loads vmlinuz and loads initrd.gz .... it echos
"Ready", then a Kubuntu splash window appears ...
Only to crash and report back:
-- cp: unable to open '/root/var/log/': No such file
or directory
-- mount: Mounting /root/dev on /dev/.static/dev
failed: No such file or directory

&c.
&c.

What might I have done wrong on the usb? I'm trying
this on a thinkpad X41 w/o a CDRom
