The 1Ghz machine finally found a home. The same kids center that
originally wanted it called and said that a parent was donating a brand
new machine (Windows Vista of course) and that they appreciated the
offer, but no thanks.
Feeling a little bummed about the whole thing I contacted the teenagers
that expressed interest in helping... one already had a computer, the
other did not. So the 1Ghz machine went to the one that did not &
includes a year's worth of tech support & assistance (involuntary
retirement has it's advantages :-).
Thanks to those that responded with offers of machine donations; I think
that I can manage to salvage more locally (especially after the
holidays) and would prefer that you use your old but very useful
machines to do the same for someone in your own community, be it a
center, person, or organization -- that's the Ubuntu way :-)
Anyway, end of thread & Happy Holidays to all.
Gary
