I don't see a problem with plugging your own material on the list either. Nearly every Phd at the local university writes or assists in publishing texts in their own field, and *require* the students to buy them.

Also, moving grandma to Linux is not a very difficult task, most middle-aged to older folk don't really want to do as much with a computer as the younger generations, so really it was easier for me to put my parents on Ubuntu six months ago, and have honestly had less tech support calls from them then in any six days that they were using windows. Maybe some people just don't have the time/patience/skill to sit down and walk someone through the concepts and processes to enjoy their computing experiences?
