Well, it's getting better and better, but still no cigar. I rebooted
(power off, power on) and to my great joy my single-monitor radeon
driver X configuration came back without the annoying clone monitor
image. Must remember that - reboot cold after X changes. Just for fun I
tried enabling the restricted ATI drivers, and lo! They worked too
(after another reboot). This is starting to feel like Windows.

Anyway, if I start the beryl window-manager, I now see:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ start
**************************************************************
* Beryl system compatiblity check                            *
**************************************************************
Detected xserver                                : AIGLX
Checking Display :0.0 ...
Checking for XComposite extension               : failed
No composite extension
beryl: No composite extension
Window manager warning: "" found in configuration database is not a
valid value for keybinding "toggle_shaded"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ end

This seems like progress of a sort.

But still no beryl :-(

Regards, K.
