Yes it's a bit old, I bought it in March 1998 (though I don't remember
if back then, it was a modern or soon to be discontinued product). The
bandwidth IIRC is around 85MHz, compared to 250Mhz for today's 17"
CRT's. However, as you have noticed, in practice, 1152x864 is the
optimal resolution for a 17" CRT, and since it can manage 75Hz at this
resolution, it doesn't "need" more bandwidth. With more bandwidth maybe
I could get 120Hz refresh rate, but my eyes are happy at 75Hz, so I
don't feel the urge to spend money on a faster monitor.
That said, I would love to replace it with a more modern 17" or 21"
CRT, to enjoy the improved picture quality of the best of today's CRT's.
I have been eyeing Samsung's offer for over a year. Would love to get a
Syncmaster 757MB or 1100MB, had I 120 or 400 euros to spare,
respectively :-/ I was hoping to get a cheaper one from Ebay, but sadly
most sellers refuse to ship...
