Display of Chinese Characters..... strange

I have managed to solve the problem, what needs to be done is the
following in a terminal:
sudo fontconfig-voodoo -s zh_CN --force

If you want to use the SCIM input engine you must also do:
im-switch -z en_GB -s scim

(replacing en_GB with YOUR locale)
If you want to be able to input chinese into KDE/QT based applications
then you will also need to install a package called: scim-qtimm_0.9.4
For the changes to take effect you will need to logout and back in
again.
