no sound after suspend

I'm also a big fan of the killall esd command.  My sound is always
broken after a return from suspend, and this usually seems to do the
trick.  I admit I'm a little ignorant about esd/alsa, but from what I
understand esd is pretty much obsolete but some programs (including
skype I think) still use it.  Anyone with more knowledge care to
comment?
