Cant hear anything with RealPlayer

It probably is, yes. I found helix conflicts with realplay.

Try looking for helix plugins, and remove them. I think you would look in
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins

Here realplayer installs nphelix.xpt and nphelix.so , apparently, and
those are needed.

Also check ~/.mozilla/plugins

You might find that helix has installed extra plugins that conflict with
these.

The other thing with realplay is that it doesn't understand esd, and
uses oss rather than alsa - the result is that if esd is running, or if
another app is accessing sound, it can't grab /dev/dsp, which is all it is
capable of doing.

Of course, if Real would make the player Open instead of a binary blob,
all this could be sorted out - but don't hold your breath :-(
