Cant hear anything with RealPlayer

Are you using the PLF repo?  The PLF repo has realplayer 10 under the 
name of realplay, realplayer will install the old realplayer 8.

Instructions on adding the PLF repo can be found here:

Then just do:
sudo apt-get install realplay
