how to fix this boot error on my ubuntu 6.06 system?

The error says it! 
open the file /etc/rcS.d/s40ifrename and check line 12 
As i see, at line 12, program /sbin/ifrename is invoked. seems that, you
may be missing this file

You can the boot to single user mode by putting 1 at the end of the boot
string or boot the system in linux rescue mode with the installation CD
and try to fix it
