My 2 cents on Ubuntu.

I've been using it on my laptop for a few weeks and I think it's very
impressive as a desktop. I still have my XP install on it, but I'm
thinking seriously about pulling the plug. I've been a Thunderbird
email user for a couple of years and a Firefox/Mozilla browser user
for longer, so the transition has been smooth. The Office Org suite so
far does everything I need for office productivity.

On the server front for my dbms apps I've still got a few issues, but
those are not Ubuntu-specific problems. I can see the light at the end
of the tunnel and it looks to be very bright indeed.

Other that that I'd add that my Windows-centric MS Office using wife
is very impressed with Ubuntu. My two boys are withholding judgment
until they see what Windows games of theirs will run on it.

For perspective I'm a 25+ year dbms and systems programmer with about
half that time spent on *nix systems (and parallel environments like
PrimOS, VMS and MVS).
