   Only you can decide that.  I've used SuSE, PCLOS, Ubuntu, Kubuntu,
and Fedora.  For me, Ubuntu has been the best.

Absolutely.

If it's the Live CD version, just boot from it, then click on the
Install icon on the Desktop, and follow the prompts.  For a newcomer,
partitioning is the only risky part.  Install will offer you the
opportunity to wipe your entire hard drive, and you must be sure to
decline that offer.  It will also offer you the option of having it
decide for you where on the hard drive to install the OS.  This is
probably best for someone like you, but not without risk, as install may
change your hard drive in ways you do not anticipate.  After
partitioning, install is virtually hands-free and takes about twenty
minutes.

website.  We can point you to that once you have Ubuntu installed.
