Well Craig, you have now exhausted my highly limited technical ability to
diagnose this weirdness. The -12v rail "worries" me a little though. I
assume (and I don't know for definite) that this could throw lmsensors and
the power management into turmoil and result in this issue. Of course, it
could be a display bug in lmsensors, or it could be a bug in your bios, or
it could be a shagged motherboard (unlikely though!)

BIOS upgrade time perhaps?
I'd certainly report this to the lmsensors maintainers via
http://www.lm-sensors.org/
