Best way to install ubuntu with fvwm2 Window Manager?

I would personally go with this second option... Alternatively, you
can try to use the "Alternative Install," which I know very little
about since I haven't tried it before.
Either way, this would allow you to have somewhat less on your
machine, but still would take a little more work. If you don't really
care if Gnome is sitting on your machine, then the first option would
actually be considerably easier. If space is an issue, though...

I'm not completely sure on this, but I think the server installs some
slightly different stuff by default. Most likely the installer will
tell you whether or not they are the same apart from having X.
