I've found that the minimum panel sizes are a function of the icons and
plugins you have running. I've been able to get a panel, set up as a
task bar, down quite small because all that appears in the bars is a
program's title. But when I've used plug-ins such as system monitors,
they inadvertently enforce a minimum size to maintain a readable

   I have similar experiences. But on the taskbar at the bottom, there is no icon that would enforce a particular size of the panel. Anyhow, does this mean that there is no workaround this problem?
