Hmmm. You might try setting up a fresh panel and put nothing in it
but the task list plug-in. I just tried mine with this set-up and can
get it down to 16 pixels deep -- even with the system tray
installed (although it truncates the icons at that depth). I'm using
4.4rc2 on Xubuntu 6.10.
