Synaptic 'rollback' function?

I'm coming into this thread after the fact and I'm trying to follow 
along.  Does everyone now agree that the correct, general procedure is:

?  If so, does it make sense to wiki-fy this procedure?  I'm new to the 
Ubuntu community, and am not sure of the "general paradigm" for situations 
like this (wiki-saving procedures are something I like to do in other 
communities).

If this is a good thing, can someone point me to the best place to record 
this wiki info, ie, which wiki pages/categories should be updated to point 
to the new wiki page I create (so it's not an orphan)?
