Ubuntu is not Firefox friendly

Yup, exactly. If there's anything that's already widely known by Windows
users OR something that looks and feel similar to the most common
Windows equivalent then that's a very good reason for making it the
default. Of course people with specific preferences can always pick
their choice from the archives. But as a default browser there's no
beating firefox.
I actually don't like distributions that have a default that's not
easily removed because it's also the file manager (konqueror comes to
mind, and Mepis as a distro.)
Trying a distro and seeing familiar, sensible choices makes me feel very
happy. :)
