update manager gui failing

Hi,

on Dapper, when I click the update icon from the applet, it ask me my
password and it shows a tatus bar showing me "downloading packege
information" and it disapear after that. I don't see the list of packages.
The icon is then changes to gray and the tooltip showing me "a package
manager is working" but noting happen.

after a while the icon comes back and still shows me "there are 9 updates
available"


The funny thing is if i go Sytem-->Administration-->update-manager it works
fine so does the sudo apt-get upgrade CLI

any cluck why the applet is misbeahaving? BTW, it used to work b4. I don't
know when it start this problem.
